m2 (metro
cuadrado) es una reflexión sobre la condición humana
a partir de la necesidad de tránsito y/o migración
(temporal o permanente) que muchas personas experimentan en la
sociedad actual. m2 es también el espacio
vital que nos acompaña
a todas partes, suficiente para establecer territorio y refugio.
En los últimos años el carácter globalizador
del capitalismo neoliberal, el desarrollo de nuevas tecnologías
de la información y el avance en las comunicaciones, han
dando lugar a una sociedad en red. Los flujos de información,
de mercancías, de capital y también de personas
han sufrido severas modificaciones. La brecha entre países
ricos y pobres ha crecido tanto como la migración resultante.
Por
otra parte eventos como el 9/11 y ataques posteriores en Madrid
y Londres, han generado tensiones adicionales en sociedades desarrolladas
y sectores conservadores mediante manifestaciones radicales de
intolerancia religiosa, racial, ideológica,
que aparentemente parecían superadas. Muros, fronteras
militarizadas, aumento en la seguridad de lugares públicos
como aeropuertos, estaciones de metro, aduanas, etc. son algunas
de las reacciones que afectan a los migrantes, son ellos quienes
sufren directamente la presión y el rechazo de ciertos
grupos nacionalistas que aprovechan el momento para darle fuerza
a sus respectivas ideologías.
Aquí es donde m2 busca
la reflexión mediante animaciones
que se ubican en sitios públicos de ciudades o lugares
representativos de países involucrados en la problemática
de la migración, como Nueva York, Londres, Los Ángeles,
Tokio, Arizona, etc. Un metro cuadrado es suficiente para la
realización de un evento o acción discordante,
inusual y provocadora.
m2,
espacio suficiente para diseñar nuestra propia geografía
y defender el derecho universal de elegir un espacio físico
donde podamos construir una historia personal.

meter) is a reflection about the human condition. It starts

with us everywhere, and it’s enough
to establish a territory and shelter.
In the last
years, the globalist character of neoliberal capitalism, the
development of new information technologies, and the advance
in communications, have resulted in a web
society. The flow
of information, merchandise, capital and persons have suffered
severe modifications too. The breach among rich and poor countries
has increased as much as the resultant migration.
On the other
hand, events as 9/11 and subsequent attacks in Madrid and London,
have generated additional tensions in developed societies and
conservative sectors. That happens with the help of radical
manifestations of religious, racial, and ideological intolerance
that apparently seemed to be overcame. There are some reactions
like building walls, militarized borderlines, increasing of the
security in public places like airports, metro stations, customs,
etc. Migrants suffer the pressure of these reactions and the
reject of certain nationalist groups that take advantage in this
moment to give force to they respective ideologies.
Here is where
m2 searches the reflection using animations that are located
in public places of cities or in representative places of the
countries involved in the migration problem, like New York, London,
Los Angeles, Tokyo, Arizona, etc. A square meter is enough to
do an event or a discordant, unusual, and provocative action.
m2, is an enough space to design our own geography and to defend
the universal right to elect a physical space where we can built
a personal history.
